Oskar Schindler (1908-1974)

German factory owner and businessman. Came to Krakow in Poland in 1939, where he took over several Jewish factories. He employed over 1,000 Jewish workers. Using his connections with the German occupation authorities Schindler was able to make sure that his workers were not deported, thus saving their lives. In 1992 Steven Spielberg made his Oscar winning film, ‘Schindler’s List’, about Oskar Schindler’s unique achievement.
